PROCESS

Sketching, experimenting and planning...

My process changes with every piece. Sometimes an idea starts with a photograph, sometimes with pages of notes and thumbnails, and sometimes I just start and see where it goes.

​

It's a mix of sketches, colour experiments, references, finished drawings and lots of figuring things out along the way.

I use sketches to play with composition, colour and different possibilities before deciding where an idea might go.

Finding the composition...

Some pieces need more planning than others. For this one, I started with notes and quick thumbnails, trying different viewpoints and compositions before finding a direction that felt right.

Once I figured out the composition I created digital thumbnails to test the colour palette.
